Tactograph: Tactile Photograph is a series that reimagines the photograph as a tactile object, one that invites touch rather than sight. The work began with a simple frustration: the instinctive urge to touch artworks in galleries and the barriers that consistently prevent it. “Please do not touch” signs, ropes, and invisible boundaries reinforce the idea that art is meant to be seen, not felt. This project challenges that notion, exploring what photography could become if touch were the primary mode of engagement. Each piece is laser etched onto white acrylic, transforming the smooth surface into something physically legible through depth and relief. The selected photographs depict overlooked everyday scenes, intangible moments like shadows, or ephemeral elements such as waves. By removing colour, the visual hierarchy is softened, allowing texture to guide perception. Tactograph offers an alternative encounter with photography, shifting the experience from passive observation to an active, sensory engagement.
